$1.2 million laptop reward (Photo: Leslie's Instagram, NYP) |
The backpack containing the computer and other items was reportedly stolen from his car following a performance in Cologne, Germany in 2010. Eager to reclaim the work that he'd lost, Leslie offered $1 million to whoever found the missing laptop and an external hard drive.
Auto-repair-shop owner Armin Augstein, who claims to have found the computer in a forest while walking his dog, gave the laptop to German police in November 2010.
But Leslie refused to pay the $1 million laptop reward, claiming that the hard drive was corrupted and he never actually retrieved his intellectual properties. According to reports, Leslie also implied that Augstein might have had something to do with the initial theft.
Augstein then filed a lawsuit seeking the full reward.
In November, a Manhattan court decided that Leslie should, indeed, keep his promise.
Leslie accepted defeat in the matter, evoking his own lyrics as he tweeted: "Ain't no way to get around ups & downs. Jury of my peers rules for the plaintiff."
On Friday, the court ordered Leslie to pay Augstein an additional $180,000 for interest that accrued between when the laptop was found, in 2010, and when the decision came down from federal court in 2012, ABC News reported.
Leslie's lawyer reportedly did not contend the motion for $180,000 because he was appealing the entire decision, hoping to have it overturned, the report added.
