"Kate has filed for divorce and Tom is deeply saddened and is concentrating on his three children," Tom’s rep tells HollywoodLife.com. "Please allow them their privacy to work this out."
The office of Katie's attorney has also confirmed the divorce but declined to say whether the process had
formally begun.
"This is a personal and private
matter for Katie and her family," New Jersey divorce attorney Jonathan Wolfe told People magazine.
"Katie's primary concern remains, as it always has been, her daughter's
best interest."
Tom Cruise, 49, and Katie Holmes, 33, tied the knot in a storybook Italian castle in November 2006. They have a six-year-old daughter, Suri.
According to a TMZ report, the celebrity couple has a prenup agreement, which has a combined worth of $275 million. Katie reportedly wants full custody of Suri, as well as a division of property.
