What's more amazing about the ~ 14-pound baby is that he is au naturel, he was born naturally via normal vaginal delivery. His mother endured six hours of labor without C-section, not even epidural injection.
"We wanted to avoid a C-section because that would have not been good for me or the baby," mom Kendall Stewardson said. "We didn't want to forfeit the best possible outcome."
Weighing 13 pounds and 12 ounces and measuring 23 ½ inches long upon birth, baby Asher Stewardson was born at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa Thursday. He is believed to be the biggest baby ever born at the hospital without a surgical delivery. Fifteen months ago, his brother, Judah, arrived weighing 12 pounds and an ounce at birth.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, roughly 2 in 5 births are in the 6.5- to 7.5-pound range. Only 1 in 1,000 newborns weighs more than 11 pounds.
The heaviest baby born to a healthy mother weighed 22 pounds and 8 ounces, according to the Guiness World Records. He was born in September 1955 in Aversa, Italy.

Oh my goodness! I cannot imagine how she delivered such a big baby naturally...bless their hearts, I wish them well.
I love it!! This is proof the size of a baby has no factor in determining if you need a c-section. Once the head is crowned and out, all else is easy. Hope all women realize they can deliver au natural as well, you just need a good support team. I did it to a 9lb baby boy...at home. Congrats!

ouch
I had a 10pound normal with no epidural, and did ok, but this is not proof that everyone can have natural births. I had five, all from 8and half to 10 pounds, and the longest I was in labor was 45minutes, I thought I had it made with very easy births. But my sixth would not come out and his heart quit beating, because his cord was wrap around him several times. I thank the Lord every day for my doc, he had him out of me by c-section in under 20 minutes, and even though he was not breathing, he never gave up! My son is alive today because of him, Yes, you can go natural, but you NEVER know when something could go wrong.
I agree with above, and GREAT JOB MOM!!!, but this is not proof, and the reason why I know this is because my friend baby head came out, but the shoulders got stuck, it took almost 100 stitches so sew her up where they had to cut her to help the baby out, They told her if she had a baby that size again they would do a c-section. Oh, she was in labor 16 hours, and had to push for 4, plus she had 2 epidurals. Not everything works for everybody.
I had to have a c-section with both of mine due to cephalopelvic disproportion. Not all women can deliver naturally.
I agree with the 3 above. Sorry Dee, but your comment is wrong. Not everyone can go natural. I'm glad the lady above had a healthy delivery, but I know people who did not. I also know people who lost there baby from having a natural delivery. The point is that we don't know what really can happen, we are just hoping for the very best outcome. But please don't tell women you can a a natural birth, because that is not always true.
I believe in Dee's defense...that we are speaking of the moms that opt for C section just because, like all the celebrity mama's.
Speaking as someone who has been a labor and delivery nurse and delivered "celebrities"- #1 - Not all woman can have a normal vaginal delivery. This can change with each pregnancy.
#2 - Not all celebs elect for c-section. A lot of them - like a lot of other women - want a natural labor and delivery experience - with no drugs - etc. This does not always occur - but as their nurse I try to accommodate their wants if at all possible.
As for this woman and her infant - I am very glad she got her vaginal delivery - but the size of this baby is not normal. Either she is diabetic and was non compliant with her diet and/or meds - or her doctors were incompetent. No one doctor in their right mind would ever allow a woman to attempt a vaginal delivery knowing the estimated fetal weight was 14 pounds. There is so much wrong about this I don't even know where to begin.
I just hope this baby's blood sugar doesn't crash and this baby end up in NICU. I've seen it happen too many times to mention.
WOW!!=0 great job mom, i have 3 children but had 2 have a c-section 3 diffrent times and it hurts. i dont think i could of done that, u must have a good husband by ur side nd good support. i can tell u r very proud of ur baby congrats nd God bless ur baby nd family. =)
In 1971 I had a all natural birth to a baby boy weighing 10lbs. 6oz. and he was 23 inches long. In 1971 that was a large baby and he made quite a stir around the hospital. His first bottle was 8oz. I am 5ft 4inches and my weigh before and after birth was 114 pounds.
everyone is differant.. MOST could have a safe delivery [natural] with 10-12 lbs babies. Some can't. some want to and others don't.... that is one reason it is called 'practicing' in healthcare. Humans would not be here if we couldn't deliver 'naturally' in that wt range. I am glad this nearly 14 baby came out OK. bottom line - always have a backup plan. That is from 40 years of 'practice'
Congratulations !!! Good job Mom!!!
I was born in 1979. I weighed 12 pounds even and was 22 inches even. Bless my moms soul....she had no epidural or drugs!
My grandfather Huston weighed exactly 14 lbs. when he was born, and was 23" long. He was average in size when grown. But, 13 lbs of the man (as a new baby) must have been heart because he was the greatest grandfather around, and was so full of love for every member of his family. I sure miss him.
Thank God for this great news. I wish mother and son good health. It is not an easy task atall, to crown it all she had the miracle baby naturally. I reward u dear super mom with a big CONGRATULATIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!. God bless u.
Wonder how big a body type the Mom is? I'm 5ft exactly & if a Doctor mentioned natural birthing to me I would have shot him!
Wow! Huge babY! Its understandable, look how huge the mom is! dads probably even bigger. duh...big parents=big baby. congrats though. still not against c-section.
I delivered our nearly 11 pound baby, with only a few hours of labor, as a VBA2C, at home. I didn't need any doctor to "let" me deliver, as a previous commenter said. I was not GD, and my baby had no blood sugar issues. In fact, I am slim, and gained only 35 lbs, on an extremely healthy diet.
The fact that doctors panic, and often use erroneous ultra sound "weight guesses" to lead to uneceesary major surgery, does not benefit women.
Women are made to birth. In the absence of severe (and rare) medical complications, we should be able to easily avoid the horrific c-section rate in this nation.
Most c-section mama's end up ending their fertility because of their fears of repeat sections. What a waste of a God-given gift for the sake of medicine. C-sections are great when necessary, yet they are RARELY necessary..and most mom's with a "I/the baby would have died without a c-section" stories are simply misinformed. Yet, when we elect for inductions for convenience and being confined to beds for monitoring, unecessary and alarming testing and epidurals as routine, we can only expect a cascade of interventions that lead to sections.
14 lbs? Good job, mom, but OUCH!
i had 3 natural births and 1 birth by an epidural. i recommend epidurals.
Wow, that is amazing!
They need to check Mom for Diabeties
FAT ASS BABY
I have to disagree with the when the head is out all is easy. I just gave birh to an 11 lb baby vaginally and they broke his collar bone because he had broad shoulders. He also had is eye bruised due to he got stuck at the shoulders. But I was only pushing for 10 minutes however his heart rate dropped and was very scary. This was my 4th baby and and we were both very healthy. I cannot imagine a 14 lb. OMG!!!
