Mayor Duterte punching a sheriff in the face | A screen grab of an "ANCalerts' video on Youtube Mayor Duterte got furious when the sheriff did not obey her order of having the demolition postponed in 2 hours since she was attending another problem in another area - the sheriff ordered his team to start the demolition right away, instead which caused tension between the residents and the police officers.
When Mayor Duterte arrived in the area, she reprimanded the team since a number of people were hurt in the demolition. She then asked the sheriff to come near her before punching him in the face, repeatedly. The mayor was blaming the sheriff on people being hurt.
ABS-CBN News was there to cover and was able to capture the incident on cam.
In a TV Patrol report, Andres said he'll leave the decision to the national association of sheriffs and added that he had forgiven the mayor. Mayor Duterte, on the other hand, said bringing the sheriff to the hospital was enough for a sorry.
Meanwhile, at the moment, the two ("Mayor Duterte" and "Sheriff") are trending on Twitter. Here are what people are saying in the microblogging site:

ReplyDeletefirst of all, the number of policemen is not enough to control the tempo once the residents will fireback.. sara's intention is to settle the possible chaos... 2 hours request of sara to wait should be given and respected before any action of demolition. The mayor has the right so especially if it is beneficial for the two parties. Granted the court order is in the rules but isn't it much preferable if no one will get hurt during the implementation? The court order is specific with the date and day of demolition but take note there is no specific time of the day. Two hours to wait is not a burden especially if the lives of the poor residents and policemen are on the stake. I dont agree with the punching but if I am in Sara's shoes, I might use my combat kick.

ReplyDeletepunching anybody would be right and could outweigh compare to more civilians and policemen will risk their lives just because of the immediate order from the sheriff to do the demolition... there is no specific time of the day to do the demolition so why in a hurry if the situation could be in peaceful way? If that demolition is successful and laid 5 or 10 dead civilians, would you treat the sheriff as a hero and did only his job as in PROPERLY? The sheriff is the captain of these policemen to do the demolition, he could not wait for 2 hours? The court order has no specific time of the day to do the demolition. It is only specific with the date and day. Kindly stop the hypocrisy.

ReplyDeletei've been to davao a few times and i admire the cleanliness and peacefulness of the place despite the on going military crisis in mindanao. so for those people who are judging the mayor of davao, let's not be ignorant and say harsh things to her.

she's following the law, and accepts the order of the court for the demolition. what she's asking is just 2 hours, so she could talk to the residents and have them peacefully vacate the premises. based on what we see on tv demolitions are always violent, if the manila people have someone like her that is trying to make sure that violence will be prevented, then you should be thankful.
mayor duterte is under a lot of stress, from the highway accident, to the incredulous flash flood, and this demolition that she's hoping to end peacefully. but that asshole of a sheriff didn't hear a simple plea. JUST 2 HOURS!!! what's a freaking 2 hours compared to the lives of people at stake.
nakakadisappoint ang mga taong ginagawang katatawanan ang action ng isang taong katulad nya. even comparing her to paquiao.. you guys must have live a privilege life and have no idea of the life of those people that she's concern about.
in every situation, there's always a cause for our action. no matter how righteous a person is there will be times na bibigay ka. and i hope that scumbag sheriff experience what those people have experience because of him.

Someone mention regarding law, isn't it right that the law should protect the people so who did she protect upon punching the sheriff? Also you mention regarding war with China, did she not requested for a 2 hours postponement of the demolition because she knows vilonece will occur.

Magpakita muna na meron kayo nagawa, bago sana magsalita ng masama sa kapwa. Especially, hindi naman kayo yung concerned party involved, nakikisawsaw nalang kayo, maninira pa! Ganyan ba kayo pagnakapunta sa ibang bahay, pag may nakita na pagkakamali, sisiraan at huhusgahan agad.
