A magnitude 6 earthquake struck Zambales, Philippines on Sunday, January 11, 2015, and was felt in other areas including Metro Manila, the Philippine Institute of Volcanology and Seismology (Phivolcs) reported.

According to Phivolcs, the tectonic quake, which had a depth of focus of 85km, hit at 3:31 in the morning and centered at 43km southwest of San Antonio, Zambales. The temblor also jolted the following areas:

Intensity V - San Antonio, Botolan, Subic, San Felipe and San Narciso, Zambales; Olongapo City

Intensity IV - Pateros City; Pasig City; Manila City; Quezon City; Makati City; Paranaque City; Malabon City; Pasay City; San Mateo, Binangonan and Montalban, Rizal; Hagonoy and Obando, Bulacan; Dagupan City; Lingayen, Pangasinan; Indang and Kawit Cavite; Bacolor, Angeles City and Clark, Pampanga; Mariveles, Bataan; Pakil and Los Baños, Laguna

Intensity III - Tagaytay City; San Miguel, Tarlac; Baler, Aurora; Gapan, Nueva Ecija; Santa Barbara, Pangasinan

Intensity II - Baguio City; Batangas City; Puerto Galera, Oriental Mindoro

Based on historical data, the said earthquake will not cause major damage but will produce aftershocks.

Update: Phivolcs has lowered the magnitude reading to 5.9
