According to the Philippine Atmospheric Geophysical and Astronomical Services Administration (PAGASA), the event will be visible in the Philippines during its final stage, the Penumbral Eclipse, as it will start early in the afternoon at 12:53 PM (Philippine Standard Time) and will end at 6:37 PM.

Since the Moon will rise at 6:12PM, sky watchers in the Philippines only have a few minutes to witness the eclipse.

The entire event will be seen from western Africa, western Europe, the Americas, Australasia and eastern Asia, PAGASA added.

Tuesday's total lunar eclipse will be the first of four consecutive total eclipses in a series known as a tetrad (the remaining three eclipses will take place on October 8, 2014, April 8, 2015, and September 28, 2015). As with all eclipses, it is probable that the moon will appear to be a dark red color during the eclipse due to the refraction of sunlight through the Earth's atmosphere. This is the same effect that causes sunsets to appear red.
