A diamond ring worth $3,500 was dropped in one of red collection kettles of the Salvation Army in South Florida on Wednesday.

Diamond ring found in Salvation Army red kettle
The diamond ring was wrapped in yellow notepad paper and was placed in a kettle at a Pinecrest Publix Super Market in south Miami-Dade. The paper contains a note that says, "Please continue your good work caring for the needy in God's name."

This is not the first time that a pricey item was found in the group's kettle in Miami-Dade. Among the expensive items collected by bell ringers in the area the past few years were golden nuggets worth $2,000 to $4,000, a gold ring with small diamonds, a diamond and sapphire ring valued at $2,000, and 10 $100 bills divided between several kettles.

The Salvation Army, an international organization that focuses on helping the poor, is celebrating its 100th year in Miami-Dade County. The red kettle campaign will continue until Christmas Eve.
