Amazon revealed Sunday that it is working on a new way to deliver packages.

Amazon 'Prime Air' Delivery To Use Mini Drones
Called the "Prime Air," the new delivery system will use unmanned aerial vehicles or mini drones to send customers' purchases to their houses. With the system, it would only take 30 minutes or less for orders to arrive at the buyers' doorsteps.

"It looks like science fiction, but it's real," Amazon said. "From a technology point of view, we'll be ready to enter commercial operations as soon as the necessary regulations are in place."

"Prime Air," however, will not be available in the next couple of years since it will take time for the technology to be refined and to wait for the necessary rules and regulations from Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) regarding the use of drones.

"The FAA is actively working on rules and an approach for unmanned aerial vehicles that will prioritize public safety," the world's biggest online retailer said. "Safety will be our top priority, and our vehicles will be built with multiple redundancies and designed to commercial aviation standards."

It added, "We hope the FAA's rules will be in place as early as sometime in 2015. We will be ready at that time."

Below is the footage from the recent test flight of one of the drones:
