Joel Brandon Jr. weighed in at exactly 14 pounds upon birth, breaking the record of Addyson Gale Cessna of Pennsylvania, who was born 13 pounds and 12 ounces.

The record for the biggest baby in the world in 2013 currently belongs to George King from England, who weighed in at 15 pounds 7 ounces in February.

Born in Timpanogos Regional Hospital in Orem on May 9, Joel suffered respiratory problems post-delivery and had to be admitted in the hospital's Neonatal Intensive Care Unit for a week and a half. But according to his mother, Sara, the 14-pound baby has been healthy ever since.

Joel's larger than average size is being attributed to his Type I diabetes and his family's genetics of big babies.

The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said roughly 2 in 5 births are in the 6.5- to 7.5-pound range. Only 1 in 1,000 newborns weighs more than 11 pounds.

According to the Guinness World Records, the heaviest baby born to a healthy mother weighed 22 pounds and 8 ounces. He was born in September 1955 in Aversa, Italy.
