General Motors has announced recall of over 15,000 cars to correct potential safety flaws.

General Motors Recall 2012
The said recall covers 12,626 2012-model Cadillac XTS vehicles manufactured from October 12, 2011 through August 30, 2012. They are being recalled for failing to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard No. 202, "Head Restraints."

"The rear seat head restraints may not lock in the upright position after being folded forward," the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) said. "If the head restraint is at its lowest position and it falls forward, it will not meet the height required by the standard."

It added: "In the event of a vehicle crash, the lowered head restraint may increase the occupant's risk of neck injury."

The recall also affects 2,949 2013-model Buick Verano, Chevrolet Cruze, and Chevrolet Sonic vehicles with driver-side air bags that might not deploy in a crash.

"The driver side frontal air bag has a shorting bar which may intermittently contact the air bag terminals," the NHTSA said. "If the bar and terminals are contacting each other at the time of a crash necessitating deployment of the driver's frontal airbag, that airbag will not deploy, increasing the driver's risk of injury."

General Motors will notify owners, and dealers will replace the steering wheel airbag coil, free of charge. Owners may contact General Motors at 1-800-458-8006.
