China-based construction company Broad Sustainable Building (BSB) has sent the final architectural renderings of the project to local authorities. It is hoping that the Chinese government would approve the proposed building so that they could begin before the year ends.

The company said it plans to build five floors a day. To achieve this, it is set to assemble 95% of the building in its factory before a single shovelful of dirt has been moved at the actual build site.

BSB will be employing a total of 3,000 workers for the project.

To stand 838 meters in height, the skyscraper will rise in the city of Changsha, Hunan in south-central China.

Most of the tower's 220 floors will be apartments for 174,000 people, and the rest will house a hotel, school, hospital, offices, shops, and restaurants.

Dubbed Sky City, the proposed building will have total floor space of 1.2 million square meters.

Estimates put the cost of Sky City at $1500 per square meter of floor area.
