Jessica Sanchez performing Fallin'  (Fox)
Jessica Sanchez came out fighting on Wednesday's 'American Idol' performance episode, blowing the judges away with two strong performances.

After a shocking near-elimination by voters and a dramatic save from judges last week, Sanchez impressed everyone with her new performances.

The remaining 7 finalists of the show were made to sing two songs and Sanchez did Alicia Keys' "Fallin" and Otis Redding's "Try a Little Tenderness."

Sanchez' mature rendition of "Fallin'" prompted judge Jennifer Lopez to declare, "I'm so glad you're here with us. I'm so glad we had a save and I'm so glad we used it on you."

Her soulful version of Redding's song was also strong, although the judges all said she needed more emotion.

Sanchez had been an early favorite on the show, earning three standing ovations from the judges so fa. But her dramatic save last week was seen by many as a sign of her impeding elimination from the competition, as it might invite resentment from some American fans whose votes will ultimately prevail in the competition.
