Some people had always noticed the resemblance of AJ Perez's features to that of Rico Yan's. Someone even took a photo of AJ Perez while posing beside the framed picture of Rico displayed in the halls of the ABS-CBN building. Check it out below:

Acting-wise, it seemed like Star Magic head Johnny Manahan found AJ to follow Rico's footsteps. He reportedly said, “Given the chance, he can be another Rico Yan.”

However, nobody ever expected that AJ would have the same fate as Rico - to die at an early age in the peak of his career in showbiz. Also, people can't help to talk about these similarities:

*They were both ABS-CBN homegrown talents.
*They were among the few in showbiz to be known for their "baby face".
*They were both La Sallitas.
*They were young when they died.
*They both died in a Holy Week.
*They were both asleep when they died.
*Their wakes were both held at La Salle Greenhills.
*As Rico, AJ will also be laid to rest at Manila Memorial Park.

Rico Yan died of Acute Hemorrhagic Pancreatitis on March 29, 2002 in Palawan. He was 27.

Meanwhile, AJ Perez passed away at age 18 yesterday, April 17, 2011 in a vehicular accident.

    this is such a very bad news for all of us ..

    cant accept that you already passed away ..

    yeah ur ryt... Rico was died few years ago... at ngayon si AJ namatay holy week din... alam ninyo nung nkita ko sa t.v ung name n AJ,i was shock and tulala,hinding hindi ako naniniwala...ksi inaabanga ko pa ung mga palabas nya ehhh...Bt AJ dont worry u will always be here in our heart at hinding hindi k nmin makakAlimutan...     nung una ko nakita si aj perez nung nagsimula cia way back 2006, i knew during that time na para ciang si late rico yan and i was so happy fr that moment na 'hey, aj will never leave the people who love him anymore, because i believe he was the reincarnation of rico yan' but then.. i was very frustrated when i learned that aj died last sunday, my heart was pounding and i just cant accept it wishing and praying na it was only a humor that aj died fr a vehicular accident. iyak ako ng iyak nung napanood ko mismo sa the buzz na wala na nga cia :'( nakakalungkot sobra, all the saddest emotions naramdaman ko. and realized na ganito pala talaga pakiramdam ng grief. such a big lost the same as rico yan died at such early age:( indeed, iniisip ko na lang na we all just have to move on and be happy that aj perez is now in the hands of GOD. god bless his family and god bless us who loves and left by aj perez. i know i'll see you again AJ PEREZ..

    I'm not actually a fan of Aj Perez. But when I heard that he died, I felt sad.. until now. I should have known him better when he was still alive. OMG, I will actually miss him. :( RIP, Aj.

    this accident shows how SHORT LIFE is, and how we can't escape death..so if you're not ready,where would you go?...I hope AJ had accepted Jesus in his life before he died..and may the LORD comfort his family for their loss..:)

    Great similarity in all ways.
    Very appropriate songs for them too.
    Sam Concepcion's rendition of the song "Gone too Soon" was just as good and heartwarming as Gary Valenciano's rendition of “A Warrior is a Child”
