11-year-old mayor names street "Justin Bieber Way" | AP
Caroline Gonzalez, an 11-year-old girl who won a "Mayor for a Day" contest, renamed a street in her hometown after teen singer Justin Bieber when she took office for a short period of time.

After a request from the tween mayor, a sign saying "Justin Bieber Way" went up on Main Street during a ceremony in Forney, Texas Tuesday.

Caroline said she likes the "Baby" singer so much that is why she rebranded the street in his honor.

"Because I really like Justin Bieber, I like his music and I like him. And I thought, why not have a street in my hometown named after my favorite singer?" she told E! Online.

According to Press Association (PA), the contest meant to get young people interested in municipal government. It added that Caroline is active in student council, recycling and community service projects.

The sign, which cost the local government about 20 dollars, was displayed only for the said day, PA said.

Update: The sign was reportedly stolen. A new sign was made and will be up until Monday, the first day of school. - Dallas Morning News

  1. Seriously? Justin Bieber? Kids are idolizing him for no reason! When you ask them why do you like Justin Bieber.... they can't even answer "THEY JUST DO" this is pathetic!

  2. What's wrong with naming it Justin Beiber Way?
It's a lot better than using some obscure politicians name. Most cities seem to use politicians to name their named streets. An awful practice.

  3. Why do they love Justin Bieber?
Justin doesn't even know they exist in the world.

Very little vocabulary you have, just like the rest of the people in the US.

  6. It would be funny if they undid that street name. I am not a fan of celebrities and to name one after them is just plain stupid.

  12. It was only for the one day. Learn to read before you pass judgements on 11 year-old girls.

Surely there are people in the world who are more deserving of your insults, no?

  16. Everyone relax. It's just a little girl putting up an innocent sign for a day. For effing sake, take it easy. I can understand if it stayed up, but that's not the case. Oh baby, baby.

  17. she was mayor just for the day the street really is renamed forever

  18. I can empathize, when I was her age I was in love with BBB, and N'sync and all this garbage. It's not like the mayor was 35 re-naming it.

  19. remember when being mayor for the day was only sitting in the "big Chair" its funny that they gave her the power to change a street name haha.
And its not a big deal shes just a little girl soon she will grow out of it so let her be.

  20. Ok, for all of those that cannot read the sign was only put in place for the day that she was "in charge"....

I like the idea of trying to get kids into politics, however, it seems like a horrible way for the city to spend twenty bucks.... They should not have let her do it in the first place. They should of explained that we don't name streets after stupid little kids that have no talent and are only famous because all these little girls like them...

Seriously, he is a sad musician... I bet once he gets through puberty finally no one will like him..

He should of never gotten a music deal really... save the plastic for music that's actually worth something...

  21. bet it's a one-way street

  22. Leave the poor girl alone. We all had our crushes on singers. I think it's cute. She is, and will grow up to be a responsible thoughtful citizen, more so than some of you.

  26. Since when are kids given power to name streets, this just shows how imeture little girls are idolizing justin bieber!

  27. whats worse about this than anything. is the fact that the money spent doing this could have been used in I'm sure numerous better ways. if justin wants a fknnnn street sighn he should pay for the dam thing.,as 4 the little girl all u guys bashin her, lay off she just a little kid. her parents should have talked her out of this, telling her she could do more for her community than this dumb sighn.

  28. This is truly sad. If she's from the same town as a MAJOR celebrity MAYBE I could see her naming the street after them.

Why not name the street after a hometown soldier who died in the line of duty, or after a police officer who gave his life protecting a citizen?

Think, kid. Does Justin Beiber fight to protect your town or your country? No, he doesn't. He's a 17 year old brat who made it into the music industry (if we can call it that anymore) because they thought he'd be nice eye candy for little girls.

This is a very sad way to get noticed.

  29. Liza-Anna, that comment was win. I agree completely.

  30. She actually got something done in her one day as mayor...maybe Congress can take a hint...Kudos!

  31. This is absolutly rediculous. It is a waste of the tax payers money just to have this immature little girl have a street named after Justin Bieber.

  32. OH SWEET JESUS NO! NOOOOOOO GOD PLEASE NO THIS CAN'T BE TRUE....god help us all the end is near, i can feel it....

  33. Can nobody read???? The sign was only up for a few hours and it was a whopping $20.

And that is why "Mayor for a Day" needs limitations.

And, frankly, I don't care if she reads my comments, or any others on here. She's 11 and she needs to learn that she made a stupid mistake just like the rest of us had to do when we were that age.

  37. First of all, you put an eleven year old girl in charge. Second, Justin Bieber does not use his actual voice. There's this new technology called Auto-Tune, some of you may have heard of it. I do not want my generation to be remembered for this pathetic excuse for a male who sings like a constipated chipmunk.

  38. Dumbass 11-year old

  39. Not to be a stickler... but I guarantee that sign cost more than 20 dollars (if you include labor).

    ReplyDelete
  40. Couldn't she name the street after someone deserving... A hero or icon. But Bieber?

    ReplyDelete
  41. i'd fuck her...she is hot, man..and very stupid.
I love en hot and stupid...wonder if she gives HEAD!!?? hmmmm.. just kidding....ha ha..

  42. seriously Justin Bieber why name a street after him how about one named after Abraham Lincoln or martin Luther king Jr not stupid Justin Bieber

    ReplyDelete
  43. Everyone hating cause they can't get a street

    ReplyDelete
  44. This Liza Anne is a terrible person. "This is truly sad," she says. There's nothing truly sad about some little kid naming a street after some celebrity. The truly sad thing is that you have to attack her for it. Why do you care? Yeesh.

That girl will grow up some day and look back on this and cringe. You, on the other hand, are probably already grown up. If, twenty years from now, that little girl blasts an 11-year-old for behaving like an 11-year-old, then and only then will something be truly sad.

    ReplyDelete
  45. Seriously?

She got to be Mayor for a day to name a street sign after justin bieber. That is probably the saddest thing I've ever seen. Hopefully its temporary. I just wonder what she'll think of this like ten years from now.

    Glad I don't live there.

    ReplyDelete
  46. I'd hate to live there.

  47. This is why 11-year olds are not mayors... they don't have a good sense of judgment!

It seems like it was just a bit of fun... the sign probably cost $10 and there was no damage done!

  48. housing just dropped another 2%! Its Faggot biebers fault

  49. Alright people, you all need to calm down. She's eleven! ELEVEN! Are you telling me you never did anything stupid when you were eleven? Or that you never had a crush at that age either? Take a breath, and calm down.
For the people who keep saying how it's so sad that the street is now Justin Bieber Way forever, you should have finished the article.
"The sign, which cost the local government about 20 dollars, was displayed only for the said day..."
Maybe you should stop picking on the girl for having her own opinion on music and guys and learn to read.
