'RuPaul's Drag Race' runner-up Manila Luzon releases 'Hot Couture' music video

"RuPaul’s Drag Race" season 3 first runner-up Manila Luzon has released the music video for her debut single, "Hot Couture."

The fun and colorful video was directed by Luzon herself and choreographed by her boyfriend Sahara Davenport, also a former contestant of " RuPaul's Drag Race." It features a myriad of over the top costumes created by a half a dozen fashion and costume designers including Viktor Luna ("Project Runway" season 9 finalist), Garo Sparo (Garo and Sundance Channel) and Marco Marco (Nicki Minaj, Katy Perry, Britney Spears, etc.).

The dance-y club song, "Hot Couture," was co-written and produced by Grammy Award winning producers Brian Kierulf and Joshua Schwartz of KNS Productions (Lady Gaga, Britney Spears, and 50 Cent). Check out its music video below:

Manila Luzon, also known as Karl Westerberg, was born to a Filipino mother and a German-Swede father. She was raised in Minnesota but currently resides in Harlem, New York.

After the third season of "RuPaul's Drag Race" ended, Luzon was able to perform at various national and international LGBT events including New York Pride and Vancouver Pride. She also appeared on a TV commercial for travel website Orbitz.

Our favorite noontime comic tandem Jose Manalo and Wally Bayola are set to invade the Big Dome this March!

The "Eat Bulaga" hosts will be staging a concert on March 2, 2012 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum in Quezon City.

Titled “Jose & Wally Show Party For Juan & All,” the concert is expected to be a laughter-filled event as it will be guested by the legendary comedy trio of Tito, Vic, and Joey; Concert Queen Ai-Ai delas Alas and Kapuso hunk Aljur Abrenica.

Last Saturday on "Eat Bulaga," Jose and Wally gave their fans a glimpse of what their concert will be. They had a special production, which trended on Twitter.

Former UP Fighting Maroon and UAAP courtside reporter Maan Panganiban has passed away, according to reports on Twitter.

"Farewell to a dedicated sports journalist, a passionate athlete, and a good friend. You will be missed Maan Panganiban. Till the next game.." GMA News correspondent Mark Sambrano tweeted 47 minutes past Sunday midnight.

Fr. Jboy Gonzales, SJ, the Associate Principal of the Ateneo de Manila High School, also posted, "Will offer a mass for former UPMaroons volleyball player and anchor @maanpanganiban at the Jesuit Residence community."

ABS-CBN Sports reported that Panganiban succumbed to cancer.

Meanwhile, a News 5 Aksyon report said she died "during an emergency operation."

TV5 sports reporter Maan Panganiban was 25 years old.

'Underworld' awakens at Ph box office

"Underworld: Awakening," the fourth installment of the "Underworld" series, dominated the Philippine box office during its first week in theaters in the country. The Kate Beckinsale-starrer film topped the local chart (January 18-25) with its Php37.9 million gross.

Another Hollywood film came in second, "Sherlock Holmes: A Game of Shadows" which earned Php10.5 million, followed closely by "Alvin and the Chipmunks: Chipwrecked" with approximately Php10.2 million.

On its second week, the Star Cinema movie "A Mother's Story" starring Pokwang, took the 5th spot after raking in Php5.5 million. The drama film has now a total earnings of Php24.8 million.

A nearly 14-pound baby boy was born in the United States on Thursday.

What's more amazing about the baby is that he is au naturel, he was born via normal vaginal delivery. His mother endured six hours of labor without C-section, not even epidural injection.

"We wanted to avoid a C-section because that would have not been good for me or the baby," mom Kendall Stewardson said. "We didn't want to forfeit the best possible outcome."

Weighing 13 pounds and 12 ounces and measuring 23 ½ inches long upon birth, baby Asher Stewardson was born at Mercy Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa Thursday. He is believed to be the biggest baby ever born at the hospital without a surgical delivery. Fifteen months ago, his brother, Judah, arrived weighing 12 pounds and an ounce at birth.

According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, roughly 2 in 5 births are in the 6.5- to 7.5-pound range. Only 1 in 1,000 newborns weighs more than 11 pounds.

The heaviest baby born to a healthy mother weighed 22 pounds and 8 ounces, according to the Guiness World Records. He was born in September 1955 in Aversa, Italy.

Viacom CEO Dauman's pay nearly halved

The CEO of Viacom Inc.(VIA) received a total pay valued at $43.12 million in 2011, just more than half of his compensation from a year earlier, the company said in a securities filing Friday.

CEO Philippe P. Dauman's compensation in 2010 was $83.52 million, making him the highest-paid among 350 CEOs that year, according to a Hay Group study for The Wall Street Journal. His large 2010 pay was mainly due to equity awards in a renewed contract.

Dauman's pay last year included a $3.5 million base salary, a $20 million bonus, and over $19 million in stock and options.

Despite the decline, Dauman's total compensation was still bigger than that of Walt Disney Co. CEO Bob Iger, whose 2011 pay reached 31.4 million. It was also more than News Corp. CEO Rupert Murdoch's pay of $33.3 million.

However, Dauman will not be the highest paid CEO for 2011 - Apple's Tim Cook was awarded a $378 million package for replacing Steve Jobs as CEO.

Christian Bautista deported from Indonesia

Singer-actor Christian Bautista has been deported from Indonesia for violating terms of his visa, the Jakarta Globe reported Friday.

Bautista was found staging a performance in Lippo Karawaci, Tangerang Wednesday night despite having only a free visa. He reportedly violated immigration regulations for doing so, prompting officials to confiscate his passport and question him the next day.

"Immigration official Herawan Sukoaji said on Friday that Bautista was being deported for disrespecting and disobeying Indonesia’s 30-day visa regulations, which prohibit foreigners from working while in the country." the Indonesian news website wrote.

The report added that Bautista has been barred from entering Indonesia for half a year.

The singer will be ushered to a Singapore Airlines flight back to the Philippines Friday night.

Apple CEO Tim Cook has responded to the exposé by the New York Times that alleges inhumane working conditions and labor abuse in its iPad and iPhone factories in China and that it "never cared about anything other than increasing product quality and decreasing production cost" as a Foxconn executive was quoted as saying in a Times report.

"We care about every worker in our worldwide supply chain. Any accident is deeply troubling, and any issue with working conditions is cause for concern. Any suggestion that we don’t care is patently false and offensive to us. As you know better than anyone, accusations like these are contrary to our values. It’s not who we are. For the many hundreds of you who are based at our suppliers’ manufacturing sites around the world, or spend long stretches working there away from your families, I know you are as outraged by this as I am." Cook wrote in a lengthy email sent to all Apple employees.

According to a report by the Times, Chinese factory workers are subjected to poor working conditions which include seven day work weeks, working 12 hour shifts and living in overcrowded dormitories for very low pay. The employees reportedly complained of swollen legs for standing while working for such long hours and that they can hardly work after shift.

The Times also cited reports of mass accidental poisonings and factory explosions that killed four people and injured dozens more.

Although he asserted to the fallacy of these claims, Cook may also be tacitly admitting that there are things that still need to be improved. He added, "We will continue to dig deeper, and we will undoubtedly find more issues. What we will not do — and never have done — is stand still or turn a blind eye to problems in our supply chain. On this you have my word."

Cook also emphasized that there is a program in his company that educates workers to their rights and that encourages the reporting of workplace violations.

Ricky Martin and his boyfriend Carlos Gonzalez are set to tie the knot on January 28, 2012, Spanish-language newspaper El Nuevo Dia reported.

An unnamed source was quoted by the paper that the "Livin la Vida Loca" singer and his longtime lover's wedding will take place in the city of New York where gay marriage is legal.

So is the couple, who looks happy together, ready to walk down the aisle as reported?

According to Ricky's rep, the Puerto Rican singer has "no set plans to marry," dismissing rumors of a New York wedding this January.

"It is a completely incorrect report," the rep told entertainment sites.

There was also a report last year that Ricky, who was awarded a Spanish citizenship recently, will be marrying his economist boyfriend in Spain where gay marriage is also legal. Buenos Aires was also abuzz when reports came out in December that Ricky and Carlos are marrying in the Argentinian capital.

Ricky Martin, who has 2 kids, revealed his sexual orientation in 2010. He revealed the identity of his boyfriend at the GLAAD Media Awards in New York City last year.

"Happy, Yipee, Yehey!" will air its last episode on February 4, 2012, ABS-CBN via its Head of Corporate Communications Bong Osorio announced Thursday.

The Kapamilya network said the final episode of the noontime show will feature the grand finals of its “My Girl” search which will be broadcast live from the AFP Theater.

ABS-CBN also thanked the viewers in the Philippines and abroad for their support and assured that the hosts of the show will be given new projects.

KC Concepcion will not just be hosting on TV this year. Megastar's daughter is also set to showcase her acting skills in an upcoming teleserye on ABS-CBN, "Alta," which will also star Gretchen Barretto and Angelica Panganiban.

"Alta," which originated from the Spanish word "alta de sociedad" or high society, will be about glitz, glamor, deceit, vengeance and other facets of the luxurious world of high society.

In the series, KC will play as the younger sister of Gretchen, a dead-set on turning against the expectations that comes with being part of rich family.

KC said in an interview that she had to lose weight for the series and attend an acting workshop.

The Kapamilya actress had also expressed her excitement over the three main characters of the primetime soap.

"It’s really exciting kasi nag-shoot na kaming tatlong girls. Ako, na-e-excite ako kung ano kaya mangyayari sa kanilang tatlo, iba-ibang hugot ng damdamin, ng emosyon… Iba-iba yung kwento nilang tatlo e. It’s a new thing for me. Sa three years ko sa showbiz, ang dami ko ng nagawa pero this project makes me realize na madami pa akong pwedeng gawin," KC told Push in November.

Park Min Young and Lee Min Ho, stars of Koreanovela "City Hunter" which airs on ABS-CBN, have called it quits, according to Park's agency.

The agency revealed that although the couple have broken up for a while now, the South Korean actress did not make public their split because "it was embarrassing to directly reveal that they broke up and she had to consider the agency’s position."

"They became strangers before the 2011 Acting Awards. With this reason, Park Min Young and Lee Min Ho had attended two different award ceremonies… Lee Min Ho went to SBS Acting Awards, while Park Min Young had went to the KBS Acting Awards," the agency said.

The actress' agency added that the main reason for the break-up was the celebrities' busy schedules.

"Park Min Young had to film for KBS‘s ‘Man of Honor‘, she did not have time to rest for a while. Lee Min Ho also had to film for his advertisements and attend his oversea activities, and we know that he is very busy… The two could not meet often and naturally broke up," the Park Min Young's camp explained.

Lee's managers, meanwhile, claimed they have no idea Lee had called it quits with his co-star.

"If they had split up, Lee Min Ho would have told us," said a spokesperson from Lee's management agency.

Park Min Young, 25, and Lee Min Ho, 24, started dating last year.

Congressman Iggy Arroyo dies

Negros Occidental Representative Ignacio "Iggy" Tuason Arroyo, Jr., younger brother of former First Gentleman Jose Miguel "Mike" Arroyo, has died. He was 60.

Atty. Mike Arroyo told ABS-CBN News that his brother had a cardiac arrest, Wednesday night.

"At that point, an ambulance was called for (Iggy Arroyo) in London," he said. "He was revived at the hospital but he went into a coma. This morning, his heart stopped beating."

The younger Arroyo flew to London last year to seek treatment for a liver ailment.

Update: Mike Arroyo clarified his earlier statement about the death of his brother.

"(Mike) Arroyo says his source initially told him that he passed away, only to find out just now that Iggy still on life support." a tweet from ABS-CBN News reporter RG Cruz reads.

"Arroyo says though that life support could be taken out anytime," Cruz added.

It looks like Taylor Swift will be playing the role of Eponine in the movie adaptation of the hit musical "Les Miserables."

Reports about the "Fearless" singer beating out Lea Michele, Scarlett Johansson and Evan Rachel Wood for the role came out earlier this month.

Although an official casting announcement is yet to be made, it is likely that the songstress has accepted the coveted role as evidenced by her reported meeting earlier this week with the film's producer, Sir Cameron Mackintosh.

Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez reunite for new show

Former couple Marc Anthony and Jennifer Lopez held hands when they arrived at an event, recently. But no, they are not back together.

The event held at TCA breakfast in Pasadena, California more than a week ago was part of the new reality show, "¡Q’Viva! The Chosen," a 12-episode series that follows Jennifer, Marc and director Jamie King as they travel throughout Latin America in search of performers to compete and to be part of a live Las Vegas show.

At the launch of their new show last Saturday, Jennifer joked about her amicable relationship with his estranged husband.

"It's very Sonny & Cher after the divorce," the superstar singer said.

To this, Marc replied by saying "really?"

Marc and Jennifer have filmed the series together and separately across Latin America in what their production company is calling a "docu-journey."

The show will premiere on January 28, 2012 on Univision, a Spanish-language network. An English version is expected to debut on Fox later this year.

Apple Inc. became the most valuable company once again after surpassing the market cap of oil giant Exxon Mobil on Wednesday.

A day after Apple's record first quarter earnings was reported, the tech company's shares jumped. Its stocks rose 6.65% to end at $448.5 a share, putting its market cap at $418 billion.

Exxon Mobil's shares, meanwhile, declined to give it a market cap of $415 billion.

Cupertino, Calif.-based Apple announced Tuesday that net income in its latest quarter more than doubled, while revenue grew 73 percent.

"We’re thrilled with our outstanding results and record-breaking sales of iPhones, iPads, and Macs," said CEO Tim Cook in a statement. "Apple’s momentum is incredibly strong, and we have some amazing new products in the pipeline."

More than half of Apple’s revenue for the quarter came from iPhone sales for the first time since they hit the market. The number of iPhones sold reached 37 million, generating over $24 billion in revenue.

Apple first topped Exxon as the most valuable company in August, then fell back to second place. The Irving, Texas-based oil and gas giant had held the top spot since 2005.

Alaska Airlines is ending its prayer cards tradition.

According to the airline company, it will cease its 30-year practice of handing out prayer cards with meals to its passenger after receiving feedback from customers who prefer not to mix religion with transportation.

"Some customers were comforted by the cards and some didn't feel religion was appropriate on the plane and preferred not to receive one," Alaska Airlines spokesperson Bobbie Egan told the Associated Press.

The airline said the change will take effect starting February 1st.

"Religious beliefs are deeply personal and sharing them with others is an individual choice," the airline wrote in an email sent to its frequent flyers.

Via her Facebook page, former Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin released a statement regarding the discontinuation of the airline tradition.

"It feels so odd that some may be offended by a little card with an encouraging non-denominational verse from the Psalms, but how often do we hear complaints about tawdry ads or billboard images flashing at us everywhere we turn?," Palin wrote. "People of faith and common decency just shrug and move on from the constant assault on their sensibilities; we don't call for censorship -- at least I don't."

Palin continued, "So, why in this day and age must every reference to faith in God be censored from the public square? Why must a private company buckle under pressure from a handful of people who find a little card saying “the Lord is my shepherd” offensive? I’m sure there are many more people who appreciate the cards, or at least are ambivalent about them."

The politician also attached an email she sent to Alaska Airlines, appealing the airline not to discontinue the prayer cards.

"It’s come to my attention that the cards may be discontinued due to a few who are offended. I really hope this is just a rumor. Please remain strong and courageous in the face of a cultural trend that wants to wage war on any positive thing that a few may construe as offensive. The Alaska Airlines tradition should be looked upon as an all-American, hopeful, encouraging gesture. Please don’t discontinue the cards." Palin's email reads.

Another Pinay had a successful "American Idol" audition.

Ashley Robles, a 26-year-old single mom who works as an insurance account manager and DJ, got a unanimous 'yes' from the judges and received her golden ticket to the second stage of the competition, the Hollywood round, after belting out the Whitney Houston hit, "I Will Always Love You."

"Very nice, very nice, very nice," judge Randy Jackson said. "That's how you audition!"

Judge Steven Tyler predicted she's "gonna be big."

"She was great," judge Jennifer Lopez commented.

Ashley's audition, which wowed and had the judges clapping their hands, was shown on the special post-NFC championship game episode earlier today. The other highlights of the San Diego auditions were also featured on the said episode, the third so far in this season.

Held at the SM Mall of Asia Concert Grounds in Pasay City, Katy's Manila concert was part of her "California Dreams Tour" which kicked off in Europe back in February 2011 and brought to 5 continents - Manila was the last stop of the said 125-show world tour.

The concert was flocked by thousands of her Pinoy fans including a number of local celebrities.

One of the highlights of the concert was when the pop-singer asked a guy from the audience to take his shirt off and climb on stage. The lucky guy was former Pinoy Big Brother housemate Ivan Dorschner who received a surprised smooch on his cheek from the "Teenage Dream" singer. Katy then allowed Ivan to kiss her back.

"Thanks for an AMAZING FINAL CDT date Manila!" Katy tweeted after the concert. "Sorry to keep u waiting earlier… had to solve a security issue, but THE SHOW WENT SPLENDIDLY!"

Vietnam vet finds winning lottery ticket he thought he'd lost

Napolean Elvord, a Vietnam veteran, owns the winning ticket for the $14.3 million Wisconsin Megabucks jackpot on January 14 but it took him three days to realize he won. He said he temporarily lost the lottery ticket and so he did not know he hit the jackpot.

Luckily, after three days of searching for it, Elvord found the lost ticket on a table in his home.

According to a report by the Wisconsin State Journal, the lottery regular also accidentally placed a bet on the wrong lottery game.

Elvord finally collected his winnings last Friday. He opted for a $10.2 million lump sum cash payment, which will come out to $6.87 million after taxes.

Asked by 22News about his plans with the money, the semi-retired construction worker said,

"I hadn't really made any plans yet, but I do look at the economy and think about the people that have lost homes that had homes and had jobs."

He added, "And I'm into construction, I like remodeling, fixing up things and I'm looking at possibly doing something in that area to re-sell homes and bring people back into their housing area."

According to reports, Elvord, who has been receiving dialysis for five years, is also spending some of the winnings on health expenses. He plans to move to his native state of Texas as well.

In the movie, the versatile 48-year-old actor will be Barnabas Collins, an 18th century vampire who awakens to the 20th century where he encounters monsters, witches, werewolves and other fictional creatures.

The supernatural drama is based on a 1966-1971 gothic soap opera of the same name. Its all-star ensemble cast also includes Michelle Pfeiffer, Helena Bonham Carter, Eva Green, Jackie Earle Haley, Jonny Lee Miller, Bella Heathcote, Chloe Moretz, and newcomer Gulliver McGrath.

The film is set to be released on May 11 in the United States.

Kim Chiu and Xian Lim, stars of "My Binondo Girl," are set to bring their love team to the silver screen.

The Kim Chiu-Xian Lim movie was revealed when Xian signed a two-year three-picture contract with Star Cinema, recently. The first of the three movies is "My Cactus Heart" with Maja Salvador and Matteo Guidicelli that is to be released this month. The second one will reportedly be the Kim-Xian film. However, there are no reports yet on what the movie will be about and when it will be made. Xian's third movie with Star Cinema will be "Reunion," a tentative title and there are no other details about it as well.

Kim and Xian's pair-up on "My Binondo Girl" was well-received by viewers. Even Kim's ex-boyfriend Gerald Anderson said he is a big fan of the new love team.

Six new dog breeds are slated to make their debut at the Westminster Kennel Club (WKC) Dog Show this year, after recognized by the American Kennel Club and made eligible for competition in conformation shows.

Here are information and photos of the new dog breeds provided by the WKC:

Entlebucher (ent-lee-BOO’-kehr) Mountain Dog (Herding Group)

- a native of Switzerland, and the smallest of the four Swiss breeds. A medium-sized drover, he has a short, tri-colored coat with symmetrical markings. Purpose and heritage have resulted in an unusually intense bonding between the Entlebucher and his master. Prized for his work ethic and ease of training, he can transform from a high-spirited playmate to a serious, self-assured dog of commanding presence. The Entlebucher should not be considered a breed for the casual owner. The guardian traits of this breed require thorough socialization, and he will remain an active, energetic dog for his entire lifetime.

Norwegian Lundehund (LUHN'-dee-hund) or Puffin Dog (Non-Sporting Group)

- spent centuries on the rocky cliffs and high fields of arctic Norway hunting and retrieving puffin birds, an important meat and feather crop to local farmers. Uniquely equipped for their task, this little Spitz-type dog has at least six toes on each foot for stability in the near vertical environs where puffins nest. A flexible skeletal structure enables the dog to squirm out of tight spots or spread-eagle to prevent slips and falls. Lundehunds have a protective double coat, reddish-brown, often with white collar and feet and a white tip on the tail. Today puffin birds are protected and the puffin dog has taken up its new role as an alert, cheerful and somewhat mischievous companion.

American English Coonhound (Hound Group)

- evolved from Virginia Hounds, descendants of English Foxhounds. Originally these hounds were used to hunt fox by day and raccoons by night and were named the English Fox and Coonhound. Today's American English Coonhound is a wide-ranging hunter that possesses tremendous speed and endurance, and excellent voice. A strong and graceful athlete, he needs regular exercise to stay in peak shape. The breed's hard, protective coat is of medium length and can be red and white ticked, blue and white ticked, tri-colored with ticking, red and white, and white and black. The breed is pleasant, alert, confident and sociable with both humans and dogs.

Finnish Lapphund (LAP'-hundh) (Herding Group)
-is a reindeer herding dog from the northern parts of Scandinavia. The breed is thought to have existed for hundreds, if not thousands, of years, as the helper dog of the native tribes. In modern day, Lapphunds are popular as family pets in their native Finland. They are devoted to their family, friendly with all people, highly intelligent and eager to learn. The dogs have a thick, dense coat that comes in a variety of colors and beautiful, soft, expressive faces. They are strong but very agile.

Cesky (CHESS'-key) Terrier (Terrier Group)
-was developed to be a well-muscled, short legged and well-pigmented hunting terrier that could be worked in packs. The Cesky Terrier has natural drop ears and a natural tail. The Cesky is longer than it is tall and has a topline that rises slightly higher over the loin and rump. It sports a soft, long, silky coat in shades of gray from Charcoal to Platinum. The correct coat is clipped to emphasize a slim impression. The hallmarks of the breed should be unique unto itself with a lean body and graceful movement. They are reserved towards strangers, loyal to their owners, but ever keen and alert during the hunt.

Xoloitzcuintli (show-low-itz-QUINT'-lee) a.k.a. "Show-low" (Non-Sporting Group)
-is the national dog of Mexico. Previously known as the Mexican Hairless, it comes in three sizes as well as a coated version - seen in the show ring only in the US and Canada. These dogs descend from hairless dogs prized by the Aztecs and revered as guardians of the dead. Over 400 years later, these dogs were still to be found in the Mexican jungles. Shaped by the environment rather than by man, their keen intelligence, trainability and natural cleanliness have made them a unique and valued pet today.

The new dog breeds will be competing against 179 previously recognized breeds at the 2012 WKC Dog Show on February 13-14 at Madison Square Garden in New York City.

The Chevy Volt battery fires investigation conducted by the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) since November has been closed on Friday. The NHTSA concluded that there is "no discernible defect trend" and that Chevy Volts or other electric vehicles do not "pose a greater risk of fire than gasoline-powered vehicles."

Below is the statement made by the NHTSA regarding the conclusion of the Chevy Volt investigation:

Today, the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration closed its safety defect investigation into the potential risk of fire in Chevy Volts that have been involved in a serious crash. Opened on November 25, the agency’s investigation has concluded that no discernible defect trend exists and that the vehicle modifications recently developed by General Motors reduce the potential for battery intrusion resulting from side impacts.

NHTSA remains unaware of any real-world crashes that have resulted in a battery-related fire involving the Chevy Volt or any other electric vehicle. NHTSA continues to believe that electric vehicles show great promise as a safe and fuel-efficient option for American drivers. However, as the reports released in conjunction with the closure of the investigation today indicate, fires following NHTSA crash tests of the vehicle and its battery components — and the innovative nature of this emerging technology — led the agency to take the unusual step of opening a safety defect investigation in the absence of data from real-world incidents.

Based on the available data, NHTSA does not believe that Chevy Volts or other electric vehicles pose a greater risk of fire than gasoline-powered vehicles. Generally all vehicles have some risk of fire in the event of a serious crash. However, electric vehicles have specific attributes that should be made clear to consumers, the emergency response community, and tow truck operators and storage facilities. Recognizing these considerations, NHTSA has developed interim guidance — with the assistance of the National Fire Protection Association, the Department of Energy, and others — to increase awareness and identify appropriate safety measures for these groups. The “At Last” singer's longtime friend and manager confirmed her death to CNN on Friday.

"This is a tremendous loss for the family, her friends and fans around the world," De Leon told CNN. "She was a true original who could sing it all -- her music defied category."

James was diagnosed with leukemia in 2010. She also suffered dementia and Hepatitis C.

Throughout her career, James released a total of 28 studio albums, 3 live albums, and 6 compilations. She had also issued a total of 58 singles, one of which titled, "The Wallflower (Dance with Me, Henry)," reached #1 on the Rhythm and Blues Records chart in 1955.

An inductee to the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame (1993), Blues Hall of Fame (2001), Grammy Hall of Fame (1999), James won six Grammys and seventeen Blues Music Awards. Rolling Stone also ranked her #22 on its list of the 100 Greatest Singers of All Time and #62 on the list of the 100 Greatest Artists.

The 11th season of the top-rating U.S. talent search "American Idol" premiered today with auditions in Savannah, Georgia. As in every audition venues, the Savannah auditions were jam-packed with hopefuls wanting to jump start their music careers through the highly watched show.

One particular auditionee somehow got Noypi viewers' attention after saying she's going to sing "In This Song" by our very own Charice.

Jessica Whitely, 19, said she has sung the U.S. national anthem at football games and other similar events. So it must be a good indicator that she's going to nail the Charice piece right? Wrong.

Jessica's audition was loud and aggressive and was bad enough for judge Randy Jackson to call it "awful."

Jessica vowed to come back for the Texas auditions but judge Jennifer Lopez commented someone should advise her not to make the drive.

Matteo Guidicelli unleashes 'Kaba' music video

Matteo Guidicelli has released the music video for the theme song of "My Cactus Heart," Vehnee Saturno's "Kaba." Check out the music video below which also features scenes from the movie and thus can be considered a teaser as well:

This is Matteo's first movie-starring role. In one of his interviews, the 22-year-old actor said it is a dream come true for him.

Megaupload shut down by US feds, 7 charged

Megaupload.com, one of the world's largest file-sharing sites, has been taken down by the United States federal government. Seven people and two corporations associated with the site were charged with copyright infringement and other crimes.

The U.S. Justice Department said the individuals and companies were indicted for "running an international organized criminal enterprise allegedly responsible for massive worldwide online piracy of numerous types of copyrighted works, through Megaupload.com and other related sites, generating more than $175 million in criminal proceeds and causing more than half a billion dollars in harm to copyright owners."

It added that the action is "among the largest criminal copyright cases ever brought by the United States."

Four of MegaUpload's operators, including the site's founder Kim Dotcom, have been arrested in New Zealand, while three other defendants remain at large. If convicted they reportedly could face a maximum of 20 years in prison.

Not listed on the indictment is rapper Swizz Beatz who is the CEO of MegaUpload according to a New York Post report. Beatz is the husband of pop singer Alicia Keys.

Ira Rothken, an attorney for MegaUpload, said in an interview that he is yet to read the entire indictment.

"Our initial impression is that the allegations are without merit and MegaUpload is going to vigorously contest them," he said. "We have deep concerns over due process and assets being taken without the opportunity for a hearing."

According to latest reports, a hacker group called Anonymous launched a cyber attack that at least temporarily brought down the websites of the Justice Department, Recording Industry Association of America, Motion Picture Association of America and Universal Music Group in response to Megaupload's indictment.

Angeline Quinto, Sam Milby to go on US tour

Angeline Quinto and Sam Milby are off for a concert tour in the United States this February.

Dubbed as the "Dream Tour", Angeline and Sam's concerts will be held on the following dates at the respective venues:

February 19, 2012 - Anchorage, Alaska;
February 25, 2012 - Reno, Nevada; and
February 26, 2012 - Juneau, Alaska.

Other details will be announced soon by its promoters.

Angeline and Sam recently worked together in the music video of "Ngayong Pasko." In the MV, Angeline and Sam played as a couple.

Sam was also one of Angeline's guests during her first solo concert held July, last year.

Clad in a black tuxedo, TV producer Chadil Deffy slid the wedding ring onto her 'bride' Ann Kamsuk's finger at a funeral-wedding ceremony in Surin, Thailand.

The couple, who had been in a relationship for 10 years, had planned to tie the knot in the future but Deffy decided to focus on his studies first. Unfortunately, Kamsuk was killed in a tragic car accident before they could set a date for their wedding.

2CELLOS' Live in Manila Concert postponed

Youtube sensations 2CELLOS are postponing their Manila concert, earlier scheduled on January 20, to a later date yet to be announced. This is according to Gummi Bear Productions which posted the announcement on its official Facebook page on Thursday.

"Due to unforeseen circumstances, 2CELLOS will no longer be able to perform in Manila on Friday 20 January 2012. The performance will be rescheduled for a later date. Further details to be announced soon," the announcement reads.

Composed of Luka Sulic and Stjepan Hauser, 2CELLOS rose to fame after the success of their video on Youtube last year. The video shows the duo playing a cello version of the Michael Jackson hit "Smooth Criminal." In less than three months, the video attracted over 5 million hits.

Their Youtube success prompted Sony Masterworks to sign them a record deal. Last Summer, their self-titled debut album was released worldwide achieving top 200 Billboard status in the US, #1 on iTUNES Germany, and #1 on the Japan imported albums.

The University of the Philippines College Admission Test (UPCAT) results for academic year 2012-2013 were released online on Wednesday, January 18, 2012. They were posted on the official website of the university.

The same list of UPCAT results will be posted at the UP Office of Admissions at its U.P. Diliman campus as well.

The UPCAT is one of the admission requirements of the University of the Philippines. It is a five-hour examination consisting of subtests on mathematics, science, language proficiency and reading comprehension. It can only be taken once.

On average, only around 10,000 of approximately 60,000 senior highschool students pass the test each year. Based on our count, a total of 12, 936 students passed this year.

PIPA and SOPA according to Google

PIPA and SOPA represent two bills in the United States Senate and the the United States House of Representatives, respectively. PIPA is short for the "Protect IP Act" and SOPA is an acronym for the "Stop Online Piracy Act." The purpose of these bills is to make it harder for sites — especially those located outside the United States — to sell or distribute pirated copyrighted material.

According to Google, here are the things the two anti-piracy bills would do:

1. PIPA and SOPA would censor the Web

The U.S. government could order the blocking of sites using methods similar to those employed by China. Among other things, search engines could be forced to delete entire websites from their search results. That’s why 41 human rights organizations and 110 prominent law professors have expressed grave concerns about the bills.

2. PIPA and SOPA would be job-killers because they would create a new era of uncertainty for American business

Law-abiding U.S. internet companies would have to monitor everything users link to or upload or face the risk of time-consuming litigation. That’s why AOL, EBay, Facebook, Google, LinkedIn, Mozilla, Twitter, Yahoo and Zynga wrote a letter to Congress saying these bills “pose a serious risk to our industry’s continued track record of innovation and job-creation.” It’s also why 55 of America’s most successful venture capitalists expressed concern that PIPA “would stifle investment in Internet services, throttle innovation, and hurt American competitiveness”. More than 204 entrepreneurs told Congress that PIPA and SOPA would “hurt economic growth and chill innovation”.

3. PIPA and SOPA wouldn’t stop piracy

To make matters worse, SOPA and PIPA won’t even work. The censorship regulations written into these bills won’t shut down pirate sites. These sites will just change their addresses and continue their criminal activities, while law-abiding companies will suffer high penalties for breaches they can’t possibly control.

There are effective ways to combat foreign “rogue” websites dedicated to copyright infringement and trademark counterfeiting, while preserving the innovation and dynamism that have made the Internet such an important driver of American economic growth and job creation. Congress should consider alternatives like the OPEN Act, which takes targeted and focused steps to cut off the money supply from foreign pirate sites without making US companies censor the Web.

Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg has also released a statement regarding the two bills. Zuckerberg wrote:

The internet is the most powerful tool we have for creating a more open and connected world. We can’t let poorly thought out laws get in the way of the internet’s development. Facebook opposes SOPA and PIPA, and we will continue to oppose any laws that will hurt the internet.

The world today needs political leaders who are pro-internet. We have been working with many of these folks for months on better alternatives to these current proposals. I encourage you to learn more about these issues and tell your congressmen that you want them to be pro-internet.

On January 24, the U.S. Senate will begin voting on PIPA, although some supporters of the bill have asked to postpone the vote. SOPA is still before the U.S. Judiciary Committee.

January 2012 Pharmacist Board Exam Results

The results of the January 2012 Pharmacist Licensure Examination, otherwise known as the Pharmacist Board Exam, have been released by the Professional Regulation Commission (PRC) Tuesday.

According to the PRC, a total of 576 out of 1,109 examinees successfully passed the board exam conducted last January 15-16, 2011 at testing centers in Manila, Baguio and Cebu.

The PRC also announced the following:

Registration for the issuance of Professional Identification Card (ID) and Certificate of Registration will start on Tuesday, January 24, 2012 but not later than February 17, 2012. Those who will register are required to bring the following: duly accomplished Oath Form or Panunumpa ng Propesyonal, current Community Tax Certificate (cedula), 2 pieces passport size picture (colored with white background and complete name tag), 1 piece 1” x 1” picture (colored with white background and complete name tag), 2 sets of metered documentary stamps and 1 short plastic envelope with name and profession and to pay the Initial Registration Fee of P600 and Annual Registration Fee of P450 for 2012-2015. Successful examinees should personally register and sign in the Roster of Registered Professionals.

The date and venue for the oathtaking ceremony of the new successful examinees in the said examination WILL BE ANNOUNCED LATER.

Eugene Domingo, Shamaine Buencamino, Chris Martinez nominated at Asian Film Awards

The list of nominees for the 6th Asian Film Awards (AFA), released yesterday in Hong Kong, contains names of three Filipinos - Eugene Domingo, Shamaine Buencamino and Chris Martinez.

Eugene Domingo received a Best Actress nomination for her role in "Ang Babae sa Septic Tank" while Shamaine Buencamino got a "Best Supporting Actress" nod for the indie movie "Niño". Chris Martinez is also nominated for "Best Screenplay" for "Ang Babae sa Septic Tank".

The 2012 AFA Presentation Ceremony will be taking place at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre Grand Hall on March 19th.

Organized by the Hong Kong International Film Festival Society, the AFA gives recognition to the achievements of the preceding year in Asian film industry.

Award-winning Singaporean director Eric Khoo will be leading a jury consisting of 12 film professionals with internationally recognized experience and expertise in cinema.

USTET 2012 results released

USTET 2012 results are now available

The results of the University of Santo Tomas Entrance Test (USTET) for Academic Year 2012-2013 have been officially released today, January 18, 2012. They have been posted on the website of the university's Office for Student Admissions.

To access the results, the USTET taker needs to provide his/her application number and surname on an online form.

The USTET is a test requirement for entering the undergraduate programs of the University of Santo Tomas. It constitutes English, Math, Science, and I.Q. tests compiled by high school and college teachers who are experts in their respective fields.

Around 40,000 to 42,000 graduating high school students take the USTET each year, and only about 35 percent pass their first choice of program.

Iñigo Pascual covers 'I Want' by One Direction

Iñigo Pascual got bored one night and thought of recording a random video for his Youtube channel. He started the video by sharing about his broken phone. He then talked about his features and showed some of his stuff. Until almost halfway through the video, the 14-year old son of hunk actor Piolo Pascual started singing "I Want" by One Direction. And what a pleasant surprise it was - the guy can sing! Obviously, he inherited the talent from no one else but his father who is a recording artist as well.

Internet addiction causes physical damage to the brain: study

Internet addiction alters brain structure, researchers say

Internet addiction can cause physical changes to the brain, a new study has found.

A group of researchers from China said internet addiction disrupts nerve wiring in the brains of teenagers causing a level of brain damage normally observed in alcohol and drug addicts.

Led by Dr. Hao Lei of the Chinese Academy of Sciences in Wuhan, the research team studied 17 adolescents who were diagnosed with Internet Addiction Disorder (IAD) and compared scans of their brains to scans of 16 healthy individuals who weren't addicted to the web.

Specialized MRI brain scans showed changes in the white matter of the brain—the portion containing the nerve fibers—in those classified as being web addicts, compared with non-addicts.

These changes in the brain showed evidence of disrupting pathways related to emotions, decision-making, and self control.

"The results also suggest that IAD may share psychological and neural mechanisms with other types of substance addiction and impulse control disorders," the researchers wrote in the study.

The National Health Service (NHS) of United Kingdom said the results of the study should be interpreted cautiously as the small number of participants increases the likelihood that the findings were due to chance.

"The study cannot tell us anything about whether obsessive internet use causes changes to the brain, as some headlines have suggested." NHS said. "From this study we cannot rule out the possibility that the participants’ brains were structured this way before their heavy internet usage. If this were the case it would raise the possibility that their brain structure was responsible for their actions rather than their actions altering their brain structure."

The findings of the study were posted on the Public Library of Science ONE website.

Jeremy Renner is Aaron Cross in new 'Bourne' movie

Oscar-nominated actor Jeremy Renner will not be portraying as Jason Bourne, Matt Damon's character in the past "Bourne" films, in "Bourne Legacy", Renner revealed in an interview last November. He will be playing the role of Aaron Cross, a new CIA operative.

"This is not a reboot or a recast or a prequel," director Tony Gilroy explained to Mania.com "No one’s replacing Matt Damon. There will be a whole new hero, a whole new chapter…this is a stand-alone project."

"The easiest way to think of it is an expansion or a reveal… Jason Bourne will not be in this film, but he’s very much alive." Gilroy continued. "What happened in the first three films is the trigger for what happens. I’m building a legend and an environment and a wider conspiracy… the world we’re making enhances and advances and invites Jason Bourne’s return [down the road]."

Renner, however, promised that "Bourne Legacy" will have the "same tempo and pace but more expansive and bigger" than the previous "Bourne" movies.

The 41-year-old actor arrived a week ago in the Philippines where forty percent of the film will be shot.

The movie's cast and crew have started filming last Wednesday. The shooting in the country will reportedly last for 40-45 days.

The film, which will also feature Rachel Weisz, Edward Norton, Joan Allen and Albert Finney, is scheduled for theater release in August.

Renner, who appeared in "The Hurt Locker", has also other movies coming out this year, including "The Avengers" and "Hansel and Gretel: Witch Hunters".

Miss America 2012: Laura Kaeppeler of Wisconsin wins title

Miss America 2012 winner crowned

Miss Wisconsin Laura Kaeppeler was crowned the winner of Miss America 2012, the 91st Miss America pageant. Kaeppeler won a $50,000 scholarship grant and 1-year title run. She also took home an additional $2,000 in scholarship funds for her victory in the preliminary talent competition.

Kaeppeler was crowned after answering a question about whether or not Miss America should be allowed to declare a political affiliation.

“Miss America represents everyone, so I think the message to political candidates is that they represent everyone as well,” she said. “And so in these economic times, we need to be looking forward to what America needs, and I think Miss America needs to represent all.”

Miss Oklahoma Betty Thompson came in second while Miss New York Kaitlyn Monte placed third.

The coronation night was held at the Theatre for the Performing Arts at Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino in Las Vegas on January 14, 2012.
